Girls Only Leadership Development

An afterschool program for girls* in 8th grade

Who are we?

In partnership with Cambridge Mayor E. Denise Simmons, YWCA Cambridge invites rising 8th grade girls in Cambridge to join the Girls Only Leadership Development program (GOLD). GOLD is a free, bi-monthly afterschool program  that celebrates self-love and self-expression, collaboration and GIRL POWER!

GOLD is an intergenerational space where girls can explore their own identities, community and leadership purpose through discussions, workshops, and field trips. GOLD believes that every girl is a leader and we aim to provide a safe space for GOLD girls to determine, practice and develop their own unique leadership skills.

A few examples of GOLD workshop themes are navigating relationships, gender stereotypes, race and racism, self-defense, self-awareness and self-expression, visit to the Women and Public Policy Program at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, future planning, networking with women leaders, and much more.

The program is FREE and there are no registration requirements other than being in 8th grade.

GOLD is on a mission to support and empower Cambridge’s young women* to become resilient and transformative leaders of their lives, communities, and beyond.

*All people--cisgender, transgender, gender-nonconforming, genderqueer, and two-spirit people--who identify with girlhood, womanhood, or femininity are welcomed and encouraged to be part of the GOLD community.
